Hauler insurance

One cracked driveway can erase your whole week. Here's how haulers protect themselves.

You can haul clean for years and still have one bad day. A couch takes out a door frame. A tailgate clips a mailbox. A helper tweaks his back on a customer's stairs. If you're uninsured, that bill is yours.

And it's not just the money. It's the phone call from a customer who's now telling the whole Facebook group about you.

What the coverage is for

  • General liability. Damage to a customer's property, or someone getting hurt because of your work.
  • Commercial auto. Personal auto policies often exclude hauling for pay, so check yours.
  • Workers' comp. For crews. It covers your helpers if they get hurt on a job.

You may not need all three, and what you need depends on how you work. A solo hauler with a pickup and a crew of four are different situations, so a quick call to an insurance agent is worth it. This post isn't insurance advice, and I'm not an insurance advisor.

Why it also wins you jobs

Think about who's on the other end of that request. A homeowner is letting a stranger walk through their house. Anything that makes you less of a stranger helps.

  • Proof beats promises. "I'm insured" is easy to say. A certificate in their inbox in five minutes is not.
  • Some customers require it. Property managers and some commercial clients ask for a certificate before they'll hire anyone.
  • It makes you the safe pick. When two quotes are close, the one with paperwork often wins.

The catch? Most haulers wait until a customer asks, then scramble. Be the one who sends it first.

Get proof ready

  1. Ask your insurer for a certificate of insurance. It's a one-page document, and they can usually send it fast.
  2. Save it where you can find it. A folder on your phone works.
  3. Send it before they ask. Attach it to your quote.

Show it on your Bulk Off profile

In your dashboard, open the Profile tab and check Are you licensed and insured? A Licensed & Insured badge shows up on your listing, ahead of your service tags.

Only check it if it's true and current. Customers can ask to see your certificate, so keep it handy.
